I hope in a QSO digital mode, new one for me!
Hi. How about 6 meter??? It is perfect time for Es/Tep from Europe to that area. And if you are high up, it will be super. If you decide to do 6 meter, please send me a short e-mail.OK?? Have fun and enjoy your trip.Hans SM6CVX
Good to hear about your plan Bill. Recently Oliver W6NV made over 11,000 contacts as ZD7W. There was high demand for CW and the low bands as the on-island hams there are mostly SSB operators and work on the higher bands. With that said Oliver didn't do any digital modes. I think the digital demand is quite high as the on-islanders are not digital operators. It would be a thrill to work you on digital. Have a safe trip and see you in the pileups.
Hi, hope for RTTY Qso,ZD7 is the last confirm for my 335 DXCC on digital!
I hope the airport is finished in time. I wondered where you are flying from.
It's a place I have always wanted to visit.
Who know now there are commercial flights I might get there one day.
Regards Mike G6DFD
Bill G0VDE / ZD7VDE replying to several of the comments ... 'Hi and thanks for your comments. I will see what demand is like but it is useful to know low bands and digimodes are needed more than SSB. I will see what I can do for 80m and I am intending to operate 40m anyway. 6m is a possibility as well - both the rigs I plan to take cover that band. Please keep commenting and I will try to keep you posted during the next few weeks. All the best, Bill'
Sounds like the trip of a life time Bill. Wondered if your flying Comair from Luton ? I've always wanted to visit St Helena and now they have an airport I'm sure more people will visit. Keep us all up to date with your progress and best of luck. Regards Mike G6DFD

Bill, There would be a great deal of interest in possible operation from ZD7 on 160 meters. Best of luck on your trip. 73, Bob W9EWZ
I can see no mention of when you will be going to St.Helena. Dates please!
Can you give me the dates for your trip to St. Helena??
Hi, I envy your trip, as I have worked with many of the " saints" down in VP8 land. Please say hi to Bruce when your there (ZD7VC)
Please make contact while you are here as ZD7VDE http://sainthelenaisland.info/contact.htm - Maybe you will have content to add to http://sainthelenaisland.info/hamradio.htm ?

Hi all, as you may have seen (and I have replied to you also) the Airport is still delayed and there are no commercial flights to ZD7. I hope the airport will be opened in the next few months or maybe a year but please keep an eye on my website for more info.
All the best and sorry for the continuing delay, Bill G0VDE.
Hi Bill. Good to see you are coming to the Island. shame about the airport. I am also going back to the Island at the end of the year. If you need a hand just shout i guess u have been in contact with others on Island. I have not been on air for a while out there but looking forward to going back. Hi there ... please see October's blog post about some good news at the airport - the RJ100 landing! Fingers crossed!
Hi, look forward to meeting you. My qth is just across the road from Perriwinkle. I mainly work CW. Best regards. Gilbert/ZD7BG
Hi Gilbert, great to hear from you and glad you have found my website. You may have seen it's unlikely I will be staying at Periwinkle - maybe I will be at Drake's / The Studio Flat. I wish SHG would hurry up and put the tickets on sale ... we have had the prices announced and I'm waiting nervously to buy my travel! I look forward to meeting you soon!

Greetings Bill, hope you won´t eat at the same place where Napoleon used to hang. I wonder if you have any plan to operate at least a little bit on the tragic band? (A.K.A. "Sick Meters" ) Cheerios Andy YS1AG ex G5AYU
gd luck om hope this operation will be lotw
cheers john mm0jtv 73s
Your plans sound very good. Well thought out. I'll be looking for you. I made some contacts with a ham on St. Helena two or three years ago, one of the locals, but really look forward to hearing your signals! Hope you do well.
I hope all will be well and this time, flights will not be cancelled... A question: is 60 metres a option to include? Many 60 m operators would surely appreciate a new one on this band! Even with a modest setup like a dipole, much should be possible. Last year, ZD8W had good signals, I do not expect ZD7 to be much different.
GL with your operation, look forward to hearing your signals! Henk PA2S

I have been watching the development of the Airport and the company I work for supplied the ICOM HF and VHF radio equipment via Thales to the Airport.
Hope to work you during your stay on fone. 73 de ZR6AEZ
Great you are going to St. Helena, I will be in the pile-ups, mainly for the Digital modes. ZD7 is a most-wanted in the Digi Modes, not much activity so far, so please make us happy, Hi! :) Enjoy and have fun.

Hi Bill, glad you arrived safely, 15 Ms has been good into the UK in recent weeks, I've worked Peter a few times, ZD7FT. I think you may be surprised what you can hear / work from there, being near the Equator. I will be in ZD8 before the end of the year, for up to 2 years. So I intend to be QRV, subject to every thing. enjoy, 73 Andy
Just worked Bill ZD7BR tonight on 20M SSB! Fine operator too. Be patient. He will work you. Keep eye on DX cluster for latest spots :-) Thanks for the nice QSO BIll. Best Wishes from West Mi. & Enjoy your stay on St. Helena. Cheers 73! Jeff

Bill: What an exciting adventure, to fly the 1st commercial flight to a just opened- new airport!! Great to work you today 10/15 on 17M. I'm sure you will have tons of callers. The DX clusters are reporting your activity. I've always dreamed of a visit to ZD7, but truly not keen on ship travel. Best wishes for a lovely stay. Hope you have some time for sightseeing and visits, and, some pints with the "locals" Cheers from sunny South Florida! 73 Bob W7MAE (ex G5APS, G5DFT, and GU/W7MAE )

I'm unlikely to do much if any CW - sorry! I'll look out for UK/Eu on 15 m I have put up a vertical on a spiderpole for 60m but it's blown down overnight - I will attach the pole to a handy tree later ... I'm considering putting up an inverted L for top band ... Re the comment 'could I get some sand (!!)' - yes, I will try to visit 'Sandy Bay' later ...
Finally, thanks to everyone for the nice comments and I hope to hear you in the pileups later! 73, Bill ZD7BR
